Great to meet you too! I'm looking forward to reading back through your posts. I see so many authors I love and more to discover in your writing! And yes, I highly recommend Business as Usual. It was equal parts entertaining and historically interesting :)

Thanks for linking those! Archive.org is such a fantastic resource. I read The Diary of a Provincial Lady on there.

Brilliant! I’ve read the first two, though I need to return to Diary of a Provincial Lady. I read it early in my Brit Lit journey and I think some of the humor went over my head. Have you listened to the Tea or Books? podcast with Simon Thomas? He loves The Provincial Lady! I have Business as Usual on my shelf and I’ve been meaning to read it for ages! Thank you for the recommendation! This category of “light reading” is one of my favorites (especially when I’m limping through a book like Tom Jones 😂).

I get so many of my reading recs from Simon Thomas including Diary of a Provincial Lady and the Lark! He has a list titled something like "50 You May Not Have Heard About But Must Read" on his blog and I feel like I need to work my way through it because his recommendations have proven gold time and time again.

Also I saw you were reading Tom Jones! God bless you! The Augustan Age is my least favorite period of British literature haha! I had to read Fielding's Joseph Andrews in college and that is the last time I hope to encounter him 😅

Oh good! Simon’s blog is so good too! I have some of the British Library Women Writers novels he helps curate too. I need to pick up another one before summer ends.

Lol thank you! It’s rather quickly becoming my least favorite. 😂 Sorry Henry! At least it’s clarifying for me why I love 19th and 20th century Brit lit.

I had no idea Zelinsky illustrated Nesbit! Must find those posthaste. Thank you for fun recommendations. I've just finished my summer upheaval and am ready to settle down for Serious Reading, but I always need breaks in between. These all sound delightful.

Yes! Zelinsky is so good! And I understand--I also like to break up the serious books with lighter things even when my mental endurance is high.
